Sidebusting On Other Pop-up Galleries

We tried to cause art trouble with the rest of the pop-up galleries at Chalk the Block:

We commissioned the pop-up gallery next door,
desingER -- a UTEP group --
 lead by David Padilla,
with Gustavo Gottfried, Belinda Mosher, and Yvonne Martinez --
to make a poster for our pop-up print show.

Maintain has been a fixture at Chalk the Block pop-up galleries,
and inspired us to both buy prints,
and bring others to El Paso.

Texas Sized Breach

The San Antonio based collective, Art3, collaborated with with El Paso artists to make large-scale steamroller prints during the Chalk the Block festival in downtown El Paso (Oct 10 - 11, 2014) .   Artists Luis Valderas, Kim Bishop, and Megan Harrison came from San Antonio to print from their 2 x 4 foot woodcut blocks, bringing an additional block by Paul Karam.  The hosting El Paso artists  Jesus "Cimi" Alvarado, Francisco Delgado, and Zeque Penya printed as well, pleasing the crowds during the 2 day event.  Ultimately the Texas printmakers were joined by Ruben Urrea Moreno and Marcus Robiason from Tucson, extending the art reach 300 miles west down I-10.

Luis Valderas and Kim Bishop conceived of the Texas Sized Breach, and directed the steamroller print process:  "Texas Size Breach is a multi-image relief print on paper and textile (bed sheets). It is based on the Surrealist Exquisite Corpse Method of artists creating art in collaboration with each other. Using industrial tools and equipment Art3 will produce a series of relief prints on paper and on bedsheets for a public spectacle of printmaking guaranteed to captivate and inspire with participation of artists and the community. The resulting prints on textile will be on display and then sown together for a larger public landscape sculpture installation TBA."

The large prints on paper will be exhibited at the 3rd Space Art Gallery in San Antonio, and at YayBig Gallery in Tucson.

Many of these artists were in the YayBig Print Exchange -- Francisco Delgado, Zeque Penya, Ruben Urrea Moreno, and Marcus Robiason.
